The Daily Prompt: Welcome, Stranger.Think about the town where you currently live: its local customs, traditions, and hangouts, its slang. What would be the strangest thing about this place for a first-time visitor?
Strangest thing for a stranger? Technically, everything. Hence the name stranger. Ok, I’ll stop acting a snob. What is the best that I can offer to a stranger in my city? If one is from North India, one will instantly fall in love with the innocuously romantic Hyderabadi Slang. What if not? Hyderabadi Biryani is famous all around the world! Probably the stranger might have tasted it before. May not be too enticing! Can I take my visitor to the archaeological site like the Golconda Fort. Or the Salarjung Museum, just to show off all the diamonds the Nizams had, which made Him the richest monarch of his time in the entire world!! No. That may be boring. Stranger may doze off in the claustrophobic rooms of the museum. Ok, what about the Zoological park. Surely the stranger must have not seen the Royal Bengal Tiger or a White Tiger. My guest will be enthralled. Oh, wait! Who am I kidding? Thanks to conservation programs, Bengal Tiger has developed better habitats in big European and American Zoos. Ok, something religious? What about the marble stone marvel, Birla Mandir? Hmm…the visitor may not be religious or uninterested in archaeology. One thing is for sure, the guest would love to take back a souvenir to people back home. What better place than the busy, lively Charminar streets selling colourful costumes, bangles and other trinkets? The stranger might also want to get an authentic experience of hukka! Let the stranger shop till the fall of dusk. Then take a walk down the necklace road, in the presence of the towering and marooned Buddha. With the cool evening breeze relaxing the tiredness of the day, a chat in the eat street with the mouth-watering junk food waiting would be a perfect way to get a feedback about my city.
Well that’s that. You are all welcome to the city of pearls, Hyderabad. Bienvenidos!
